A Midwife on Mission

By Flossy Atimango Komagum

My name is Flossy Atimango Komagum, and I serve as a missionary midwife among the Dodoth Karamojong in Kaabong district. I first learned about GLA from a missionary who had been sent to my home village in Lamwo district.

Through the trainings, I have discovered that mission must be at the center of my life and that prayer is the key to everything I do. I have learned to adapt to a new culture with humility and to deepen my Bible study and prayer life.

Lessons learned

At my placement, I have discovered the importance of adjusting to different personalities in order to live and work with others. I have also learned to resolve conflicts in a healthy way—by addressing issues directly with love.

Professionally, I have grown as a midwife. I am now confident in assisting mothers in childbirth and even managing the third stage of labor by myself. I have also learned to use medical equipment, such as the NICU computer system.

I thank God for how far I have come. I see His hand at work in both my personal growth and my professional service.
