Blessed to be a blessing

By Samantha Nangami

Late last year I reached out to a Christian organization in Kenya and I was recruited
to one of their programs, which was an exchange program where some missionaries get to go to Uganda for one year and that is how I got to know GLA which is my host organization here in Uganda.

Learning and Growth in Missions

For the past 6 months I have learned a lot both from my placement and the trainings I have undergone in GLA.I joined missions when I didn’t really know much about it but for these few months I have been taught to understand what exactly is missions and why I should do it. I have understood that missions is God’s great plan since the beginning of times and it is my role as a Christian to actually reach out to those who have not heard the gospel “Blessed to be a blessing to others.”

My personal approach to implement the above lessons started with a self reorientation towards mission from the prayer perspective, engaging more in bottom line prayer than the top line prayers I have prayed for years in ignorance of my role in mission.

Serving at my placement has helped me to value every culture and to understand that every tribe belongs to God and that He is already at work in all the people groups. Being a bit far from home has also helped me to grow especially in the social aspect of life because for me to effectively serve the people of Boboboro  I have had to create a relationship with them.

I joined missions a few months after my graduation, this is a time where I definitely wanted to explore my Nursing career more and thanks to GLA I was given this chance. I have really grown professionally because apart from sharing the gospel I have been given a chance to work in a health facility within the community I serve, my involvement in integrated health outreaches is one among many motivations for me to continue serving in Boroboro-Lira.

A great area of growth has definitely been my spiritual life, last year in August I prayed to God for a deeper connection with Him, the chance to be a missionary in GLA was a starting point for me to connect more with God through His word a big challenge being I couldn’t offer to the community something I didn’t have hence the need to read and listen more to God’s word.

I’m so grateful that this chance came my way, i know it’s a starting point of great things specifically my involvement in missions.
